COOL! Downtown Houston Interactive Map

An exciting new Web site launched which provides REALTORS® and residents unprecedented access to information about Downtown Houston. The Downtown Houston Interactive Map, available here, allows site visitors to access up-to-date real estate information, parking locations and rates, and searches by business name or address.

At this time, the map covers the territory of the Central Business District, the downtown area enclosed by I-45, I-10 and U.S. 59. Site visitors can zoom in to a two-block area or view the entire Central Business District. Crucial information not found on many printed maps, such as the underground tunnel system connecting 38 blocks of downtown Houston, is seamlessly integrated into the map’s design. The map was designed by Cartifact, which specializes in real-estate cartography.

The Downtown Houston Interactive Map came about through a partnership of HAR, Central Houston Inc. and the Houston Downtown Management District. HAR wanted to create an interactive map of downtown real estate, while Central Houston Inc. had been contemplating an interactive downtown parking map. The project was sparked in January 2005 when the groups realized they had a common goal.

HAR has tied in heavily with the map, making detailed real estate information available by clicking on a building. One click on a building brings up its address, square footage, year of construction, and a link to any Commercial Gateway property listings from that building. This is an invaluable way for REALTORS® and potential tenants to obtain a quick, in-depth look at a property’s surroundings.
